- A Sun-Soaked Adventure: Unveiling the Best Beaches in Exmouth, Australia
We woke up very early due to the hot weather. Our tent turned into a sauna. The plan was to visit Lucky Bay during our stay in Esperance. This beautiful beach with turquoise blue water is located in Cape Le Grand National Park. We decided to purchase a National Park Pass’ which would be a good idea. This is a $92 subscription that grants access to all national parks in Western Australia. If you visit many national parks, it quickly pays off. After purchasing the park pass, we also booked a spot at the camping area in Lucky Bay. Our stay in Esperance became longer than expected because the spot at Lucky Bay could only be reserved for the weekend, from Saturday to Sunday. We were looking forward to it! Today it reached 38 degrees. The temperature would be slightly lower in the coming week, so it seemed the perfect day to go to Lucky Bay. When we arrived, we were amazed.
The beautiful light blue water and the pearl-white beach were incredibly stunning. Inez even thought it was more beautiful than the stunning beaches of Thailand. Combined with the scorching weather, it was perfect! We took a refreshing swim and enjoyed the view around us. It was occasionally startling when cold waves crashed over us, or we stepped off a sandbank and ended up in deeper water. Beautiful green mountains surrounded by beautiful light blue water. We were savoring the moment but also had to be careful not to get sunburned! 😀 Inez ordered a ‘Kangacino’ at the local coffee shop. This cappuccino with extra chocolate frosting and Maltesers represents the kangaroos with their brown fur that can be seen on the beach here if you’re lucky! It seemed like a great plan to explore the rest of the national park on this sunny day. We visited Thistle Cove, Rossiter Bay, and Hellfire Bay. We made a quick stop at Whistling Rock and Frenchman Peak.
The next day, the weather was not as favorable. Our car needed a wash, so we drove to a car wash. Both the exterior and interior received a thorough cleaning. It looked as good as new! 😀 Our sunglasses and regular glasses needed some tightening, so we visited a local eyewear store, where they helped us for free. The man also gave us some tips about a nice beach. We walked along the Esplanade and had something to eat and drink at a trendy bar. A few days ago, we contacted a woman regarding possible work at Hopetoun’s IGA (supermarket). This village was on our way and seemed perfect to spend a few months before heading towards Perth and Broome. After a ten-minute phone call with this woman, we were invited to come for an interview next Tuesday.
After a hearty breakfast, we headed towards the highly anticipated Great Ocean Drive. The weather wasn’t great, but we still enjoyed a nice walk where the sun peeked through occasionally. Beautiful blue water, beaches, and rocks were the main attractions here. Unfortunately, the famous Pink Lake appeared to be grayish-blue. The lake hasn’t been pink for the past seven years due to climate changes. Perhaps it’s time for them to change the name 😀 After a few hours, we returned to the city. It was time to do some research about the car. In short, to renew our car registration, we need to be physically present in Victoria (where the car is currently registered). This is not possible since we are already in Western Australia. To register the car here for six months, we must inspect it to ensure it complies with local regulations. The inspection conducted in Victoria a few months ago is not valid here. Of course, there are also associated costs with this process. With a heavy feeling in our stomachs, we went to bed.
After breakfast, we drove to an inspection center in the city. After a few hours of waiting, we received three items that needed to be addressed. The front tires needed alignment, the right front headlight required cleaning, and the rear seat headrests were missing. We found the headrests at a car dealer, and a garage was able to help us with the other two issues. The garage noticed our rear tires and informed us that there was definitely something wrong with them. They were significantly tilted inward, and given the tire wear, it could mean that we would have to replace them twice in the future. After much deliberation, we decided to install two new rear suspensions. This would be a more cost-effective solution than repeatedly replacing the rear tires or risking a blowout. The beautiful weather made us happy. We drove to the national park for our overnight stay at Lucky Bay. However, when we arrived at the park entrance, we realized that we had mistaken the date 😀 The overnight stay was actually scheduled for the following day. We drove back to the previous campground where we had stayed.
We checked out early for breakfast at our trendy bar. It was perfect. Finally, the quality we were used to. Today was the day for our overnight stay at Lucky Bay. We drove there early enough and enjoyed the campground and the beach. It was slightly cooler than before but still pleasant. The campground itself was quite commercial but still cozy for a night. We did our dishes in the camp kitchen in the evening and started chatting with a German and Belgian couple. The Belgian couple was backpackers with a rooftop tent, and they gave us some great tips for the journey between Perth and Broome.
We set our alarm for 4:30 am to witness the sunrise at Lucky Bay. We weren’t alone and enjoyed watching the sunrise. The water and beach didn’t look as stunning at first, but as the sun rose, the water became bluer and the beach whiter. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any kangaroos on the beach. They only briefly showed up at the campground as we returned to our car for the rest of our night’s or morning’s rest. When we woke up at a more reasonable hour, we walked the entire length of the beach. The further we walked, the more beautiful it became. The sand became softer, the water bluer, no people around, just tranquility and sunshine. This walk was genuinely refreshing. We longed for more. The Frenchman Peak offered a 3-kilometer hike to the top of this granite mountain. We put on our hiking shoes and started the trek. When we were about halfway, the mountain became quite steep. Our hiking shoes were standard sneakers with not much grip. Inez slipped once, and we decided not to go much further and turned back. The view from there was already beautiful enough. We didn’t want to risk slipping somewhere. After reaching our goal of 10,000 steps per day, we enjoyed a dinner at a restaurant.
Today was a rest day. The weather would be fantastic, and we wanted to enjoy it. Not far from the campground is an IGA supermarket. We walked there and shopped to prepare a delicious cold dish for dinner tonight. We didn’t do much else besides basking in the sun. We had rain and thunderstorms in the late afternoon, so we cooked our dinner under a shelter in the camp kitchen. A nice chat with a German couple with a child made it a pleasant evening.
We said goodbye to the lovely lady at the campground very early because our car had to be taken to the garage early for the new rear springs. We had no choice but to take refuge in a restaurant in town. Updating the blog and talking with each other helped pass the time. Just as the garage dropped us off in town, they also picked us up when the car was ready. Our rear tires were straight, and there was more clearance between the tires and the car. Now we don’t have to worry anymore when driving over deeper potholes or sand. We continued driving to Hopetoun, hoping that we could start our job there.
Esperance was a bit too expensive and long for our liking, but it gave us new perspectives and wonderful beaches with that turquoise clear water! 😀
