Arriving around noon, we searched for our AirBnB. It was located a bit further from the city center. With a few detours, thanks to Google Maps, we finally arrived. After a few nights in a hostel, it was nice to enjoy some peace and a comfortable bed. After a delicious lunch at a great coffee bar, we took the bus to Noosa Junction. This is the first part of the city that you come across. Noosa is divided into different sections. We quickly grew tired of Noosa Junction and continued walking towards Noosa Heads. It was quite a hike up the mountain that separated the two parts. Our initial impressions of Noosa, especially Noosa Heads, were positive.
We felt at ease and were convinced that Noosa would charm us. The long shopping street, Hastings Street, offered us various shops, restaurants, and bars. It immediately gave us a sense of being somewhat at home. The shopping street and the surrounding area were extremely crowded due to an important rugby final taking place. There was no place to relax and have a drink. Towards the end of Hastings Street, we found a cozy spot with fewer people. Judging by the prices, it was clear why there weren’t many people there. We also noticed that Noosa is a favorite destination for the wealthier and hipster crowd. Inez felt a bit underdressed again.
To our surprise, they took our order at the table, and we had to pay afterward. We were not accustomed to this and accidentally left the place without paying. Oops! Someone chased after us. We quickly paid, and everything was sorted. We started getting hungry and decided to have something to drink closer to our AirBnB. That’s when we stumbled upon the cozy spot, Eddie Cheeba. We had some tapas there and then returned home.
Our plans to visit the National Park literally fell through the next day. It rained all day, leaving us with no option but to spend the entire day in our room. However, this allowed us to continue planning, editing our photos, and updating our blog.
Later in the evening, the rain stopped, and we headed towards Sunshine Beach for a walk along the beach in the dark. We got hungry after spending a whole day indoors with nothing to do! 😀 Mooshka, a cozy Mexican restaurant, satisfied our hunger and thirst. The rain left us with no choice but to extend our stay in Noosa. Fortunately, it wasn’t the first time we had to adjust our plans last minute. Inez has actually turned it into a new national sport of hers 😀
New day. After breakfast, we were picked up by our next AirBnB hosts. They were a friendly, slightly older couple. The sun was shining, no time to waste, and off to the National Park, we went. Noosa National Park offered us five walks through the forest or along the beach. We decided to mix it up and started by walking through the forest, which eventually led us to Alexandria Bay. Continuing along the coast brought us back through a different section of the forest to Hell’s Gates, where we had a beautiful bay view. You could also see Double Point Island in the distance if you looked closely. The walk took us along several bays and beaches and eventually to Noosa Heads.
The National Park is large and offers many hiking trails. The next day, we opted for a second hike. Here, we were treated to more encounters with wildlife and witnessed some beautiful natural scenery. One of the remarkable animals we came across was the Goanna. It emerged from the forest and found a sunny spot to stretch out and relax.
The day was far from over, so we took the ferry across the Noosa River to Tewantin Marina. We were presented with a completely different view of Noosa. There were numerous houses, villas, and resorts lining the waterfront. Almost everyone had a private pontoon with their own boat. Children sailed in their Optimist dinghies while their parents sunbathed on the beach. It was magnificent! A bit like the Miami of Australia. On the return journey, we disembarked at Noosa Village. It was the perfect spot for a drink and some tapas.
Our last day in Noosa was peaceful, which was much needed after all the hiking. However, to wrap up our time there, we took one last walk from Noosa Junction to Sunshine Beach. We spent the late afternoon and evening at our AirBnB, playing card games, watching a movie, and indulging in a hamburger delivered by Uber Eats. We figured we had to try it in Australia, too, right? 😄
Our backpacks are packed once again, and our next stop is Brisbane.
