Our taxi took us on an hour’s drive from Canggu to Ubud. Twenty minutes later, we drove through beautiful, completely different Bali rice fields. Nice weather, and our cozy hotel, The Peacock Inn, welcomed us in Ubud. Our room was top-notch, and a swimming pool right at your room is always a plus. When we walked around Ubud, it quickly became clear that this city is very artistic. Everything here revolves around art and dance. We couldn’t resist going to taste a delicious croissant in Monsieur Spoon. Here they make all their bread themselves and use real French butter. That tasted great. Almost like home! We further explored Ubud and briefly stopped at Monkey Forest. We had seen enough monkeys in Sri Lanka and just walked past calmly 😀 We visited the Saraswati temple. Unfortunately, it was closed to visitors because a ceremony was in progress. A vast crowd surprised us. We found the local markets after turning into a few streets and searching for a quieter spot. Here it was just a bit more pleasant and easier to walk. We came across a car-free street with many shops and restaurants when we walked out of the street. The cozier part of Ubud. We made a stop at Kismet, ate, and drank something small. In the evening, we ate at Puspa’s Warung. A small business highly praised online for having the better Nasi Goreng in Bali. We got a strange but original menu made of cardboard boxes. I ate Nasi Goreng and Inez ate vegetarian Nasi Campur. Super tasty and honestly priced. A recommendation! On the way to our hotel, we came across a large procession. Dancing women and men walked across the street. It was special to see, but a real bonus that we could experience this just now.
The following day we woke up to the least pleasant sounds of nature. Rain! 🙁 Our plans for a morning walk were literally washed away. It drizzled all morning, so we decided to plan our next few days. We booked our accommodation and a boat trip to the island of Nusa Lembongan. When it finally stopped raining, we went for a second treat at Monsieur Spoon. We couldn’t resist that delicious croissant. We also ate a tasty Pain Au Chocolat and an Almond Croissant. Eager for some exercise, we started the Campuhan Ridge Walk. A beautiful pleasant walk among the greenery, several small temples, many small local houses and restaurants. We got a few small showers, but the cooling was welcome. For lunch, we ate at Warung Biah Biah. Inez had a tasty soup and I ate a nasi goreng with chicken satays and the most delicious peanut sauce. We had another lime juice and retreated to our room to recover from the walk. In the evening, we had a wonderful vegan meal at Mudra Café. Relaxingly satisfied, we watched Netflix and went to bed early. We were picked up early in the morning for our trip to Nusa Lembongan.
